Changes

I’m not sure if my recent posts have been negative but since they might be taken that way, I wanted to highlight a positive change that has occurred over the past few months. It relates to my temper. I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with the fact that I have one. It usually comes out when I’m uber-stressed, around certain family members, or in cabs.
Few things make me lose my temper like my getting in a cab and the driver not turning on the moneh (meter) and then setting a really ridiculous price that I am unable to negotiate to a slightly less ridiculous. My reaction is usually improved Hebrew speaking skills and heightened emotions. It never benefits me and only makes me feel bad afterwards. It’s something I don’t usually discuss with anyone, especially those close to me, and is something I really dislike.
In March I went out to Kfar Saba for something and was in an area where I needed to take a cab to get to the train station. I ordered one and got in and forgot to ask him to put it on the moneh. I noticed that it wasn’t on the moneh and had a typical episode. The worse, his young daughter was in the front seat.
After that incident I decided that enough was enough. I’ve decided that since it is equally my fault for not immediately making sure it’s on the moneh when I get in the cab, instead of bursting out at a cab driver, I will just discuss the price, try to negotiate, ask why, accept it, sit back and relax. It is a change in attitude that I have applied to cab rides since and increasingly to other scenarios where I’m really stressed.
I believe it is my biggest accomplishment so far.
